Free Museum Day 2007
On September 8th, Free Museum Day 2007, many of the museums and historical societies of Erie County will open their doors for the community. Scheduled in conjunction with the Erie Heritage Festival, the day is an opportunity for the greater community to explore many Erie County cultural centers free of charge. Free Museum Day is an annual tradition which thousands of residents have taken advantage of. Museums and historical societies involved will include:

Edinboro Area Historical Society

Hours: 9 a.m – noon

Built in 1861, the Doucette House, the historical society's headquarters, invites visitors to explore the Itliante architecture of the foundation in addition to its historic content.

Elk Creek Township Historical Society
Hours: 1-4 p.m.

Visit historic former Universalist Church in Wellsburg, a quilt display and living history by the 145th PA. Volunteer Infantry Unit (Civil War re-enactors)

A hands on museum for children ages 1-12. Included are three floors of interactive exhibits where children are able to explore arts, science and humanities.

Firefighters Historical Museum, Inc.

The site is located in the old #4 fire station, built in 1903. It is a two story station full of antique fire memorabilia dating back to 1823.

Harborcreek Historical Society

A sale of Harborcreek memorabilia including: books, landmark throw, prints of local sites, displays of archival items, children's puzzles, and refreshments.

Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier

This museum will be celebrating the annual LEAF festival in conjunction with Coastal Connections Festival. There will be horticultural preservations, environmental and horticultural booths, music and food along with games and crafts, a "tree climb" and antique trucks rides for the children.
